DESTINY DAIRY
SEASON 2009.
Part One.

We are on the move again. Destiny has been floating in Maltese waters for the last
seven months; it is time to go.........

During our stay on the island we made a lot of modifications to the boat. We've built a completly new locker compartment on the aft deck, which not only gives us plenty of lockable storage, but also makes the deck a lot tidier. We moved the stern anchor to the bathing platform and installed a new bathing ladder - a practical collapsible one which goes deeper in the water, finally on deck, the old gas locker has been moved onto the foredeck to add storage for ropes etc.

But, most of the changes have been made inside:- we have completely transformed the forward cabin, making
it a lot more roomy and comfortable;- we dismounted the upper bunk on the port side, removed the washing
machine and wardrobe and installed a bed on the starboard side. The new washing machine is now in the
galley in place of the old fridge unit. The big freezer with its 25KG lid has been modified to be a fridge
with a front door and a new freezer has been installed in the forward cabin underneath the new starboard
bed.
In the galley a new oven has been fitted so that I can now cook some good food and patisserie! But the
most important has been the electrical installation, we now have 220V on the boat instead of the 110V,
which allows us to use all our electrical appliances and we even treated ourselves with a new Dyson
vacuum cleaner, the old one found an American family to stay with!
We have also changed the upholstery covers and cushions in the wheelhouse and in the dinette, including
the helm seat (The 1970 Ford Cortina look, had to go). We've changed the mattresses on the beds, a
new one for us and modified the ones in the forward cabin. All this has taken quite a lot of time and
has been hard work and not easy to find the right people to supply the correct goods but we are very
pleased with the results.

We went back home for a short visit on April 23rd to remove some of the stuff we didn't need on the boat,
sort some paperwork, get some French food and then back on the boat on May 4th, Peter and Coralie arrived the
by plane that evening, we didn't dare tell them that we were in France the week before in case we were delayed and his 'nibs' would have panicked! anyway, all went to plan. So we had a week to play tourists in Malta, Peter officially received his BSc and John took his boat driving test and is now officially qualified to drive the boat! (Peter trained him!).
After the Weston's departure we took the boat to the boat Yard for the antifouling and to polish the hull; then back in Grand Harbour for a deck clean, and sort the electronics, a new compass for the pilot had to be
fitted; couldn't leave without a working autopilot! There is still so much work to do to keep 'Destiny'
shipshape but it can wait , it is time to go if not we will never leave. So on Thursday 21 may 2009 at 07H30
we left Malta for Sicily.
